Adaptnation

Project Introduction

As part of a university assignment, we were asked to develop a concept that brought together graphic design, animation, and project planning. In a group of five students, we created Adaptnation, a game concept aimed at raising awareness about the endangerment of animal species.

Adaptnation is designed for young children, using engaging storytelling and interactive gameplay to introduce key environmental challenges. Players take on the role of animals adapting to changing habitats, which helps them understand real-world issues like climate change, deforestation, and pollution in a fun and accessible way.

The concept is built on the belief that creative tools like games and videos can spark curiosity, empathy, and awareness from an early age. Our goal is to inspire children not just to enjoy playing, but also to develop a deeper connection to the world around them.

We started by developing the core concept together, shaping the idea around storytelling and environmental awareness. From there, we moved into storyboarding and scripting to build the game’s narrative and flow. With the foundation in place, we divided the tasks and tied everything together through a cohesive visual identity aimed at engaging young audiences. Finally, we brought the world of Adaptnation to life through 2D animation and sound recording, giving it both movement and personality.

Platform & Experience

Adaptnation is designed as a 3D adventure game that blends exploration, storytelling, and survival elements. Players can navigate through natural environments, interact with various creatures, and face environmental challenges. Conceptually, the game is developed to be playable on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, offering an immersive experience through both handheld and console play. This versatility makes Adaptnation an engaging, fun, and educational game ideal for younger audiences.

(Note: This is a conceptual project and not a real game.)

To visualize the game concept, we created an animation that serves as the trailer of the game story telling. It introduces the world of Adaptnation, the creatures within it. The animation also works as a storytelling piece that captures the tone and values behind the project.
